Visiting Angels partners with the Alzheimer’s Association Utah Chapter to help raise awareness about the growing epidemic in Utah. The National Alzheimer’s Association recently released it’s new data report on the latest statistics regarding Alzheimer’s disease. Highlighting the information is a growing concern regarding Utah and the trends happening in the Beehive State.
According to Good4Utah.com, “The data shows in Utah 30,000 people now have the disease, and rates are only climbing.” The number of people with Alzheimer’s is expected to triple by 2050 and currently affects over 5 million Americans. Good4Utah quoted Ronnie Daniel, the Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association Utah Chapter, stating, “the statistics show that over the next decade, here in the State of Utah, we’re going to see about a 40 percent increase in the numbers of people with this disease, and those are based upon the number of baby boomers that are turning age 65.”
We want you to be as armed and informed as you can! As we gear up to support Walk for a Cure here in Utah (coming in August to the Ogden community and October to the Layton community), we will be doing a series on Alzheimer’s to help you grow in knowledge and understanding. Coming up is a four part series where we will share: what Alzheimer’s is, practical prevention, how to care and support someone with Alzheimer’s and how to care for yourself if you are a caregiver.
First up, what is Alzheimer’s? For that we provided a link and video to TEDEd: Lessons Worth Learning. TEDEd is a part of TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), a media organization founded in 1984 and provides talks and lectures online, under the slogan “ideas worth spreading”.
